Final Thoughts on the Course

My favorite assignment this semester was definitely the bucket list project. I liked the freedom that it allowed and it was a really unique and interesting experience. I also really liked watching The Buried Life.

My least favorite assignment was probably twitter fiction. I didn't dislike it, I just felt really rushed to get it all done, and maybe would've liked to write a short story instead of another micro-form.

I loved Friday reading. I have a very busy life (which I hate) and Friday reading gave me time to just relax and read a good book, which otherwise I simply would not have had time for.

I didn't mind written reflections on Mondays. It was a good way to reflect on what I had done the week before, and a nice way to start the week. Sometimes I found myself falling behind on completing them, but they all got done in the end.

I liked blogging a lot. It is a great method of putting your work out into the world, and I'm really glad I got to learn more about the technology through this class.

I really enjoyed using Twitter for work. I had a twitter account before, but wasn't entirely sure how to use it. Through using it through this course, I learned a lot more about it and how to use it to it's full potential. I am now using my personal account a lot more!

This course was a lot different than I expected. I thought it would be more pencil-to-paper writing, but it was a pleasant surprise to use so much technology. I learned how to use it in a professional fashion, and I learned how useful  social media can be to get your work out into the world. I'm glad I am now a creator of internet content instead of a consumer.

I learned so much about myself through this course. How it takes me awhile to get started but once I do I have lot's of good ideas, what my technological footprint looks like, and especially how hard it is for me to write micro-forms.

Advice for future CW students: Keep your blog up to date!

Thanks Ms. Mclauchlan for making the first period of the first semester of my grade 10 year a good one!

Weekly Reflection #6

Question #1

Even though I'm not graduating this year, I think there are a lot of different ways that I could use my blog to help me achieve my goals in the future. I'm not sure exactly what I am doing after high school. I really want to go away to university, or take a year off and travel. If I were to go away to university, my blog could help me  get into a school, because it reflects who I am. If I end up traveling after graduation, my blog could be an important tool because it would enable me to keep in touch with family and friends at home, and document my adventures.

 Question #3

I left my comments where I did because they were posts that I could connect to, and have a conversation about. I think a good comment is one that starts a conversation, or is unique. Something with more than one word is probably a good idea too. A bad comment is something generic and boring, something that won't mean a lot to the author of the post. Commenting on other peoples blogs allows you to get to know them better, and may be they will visit your blog in return. Receiving comments on your blog is a good thing because it can help you get to know people and maybe improve your blog. I had fun commenting!

Writing Reflection #9

Twitter Fiction

I am really enjoying twitter fiction so far. I am doing something in-between VSS and an extended story, where I write a few stories that are more than one tweet but not pages and pages, and some that are just one. I chose to do this type of twitter fiction because I couldn't decide between doing VSS or an extended story, and I wanted to try both.
I am not very close to done, I've only completed about ten out of the thirty that I have to do. I don't think I'll have any problems getting thirty done though, and I will probably do more.  I can't wait to see how all all my stories turn out!!

TBL Now What?

Now What?

There are a lot of things on my bucket list that are gonna take some time or extensive planning to check off, but one thing that I think I’ll be able to complete very soon is #24, “Swan Dive off a Cliff”.
I’ve always wanted to be able to swan dive. I’ve never attempted it, and I’m really bad at diving, but I think maybe if I tried a swan dive off a cliff it would make up for my lack of skill.
The reason I think “Swan Dive off a cliff” is going to be the first thing that I cross off my list is because I am going to Hawaii for a training camp over spring break. I was there two years ago for a different training camp, and jumped off a few cliffs, but never tried to swan dive.
I hope I can bring myself to do it, because I can’t wait to cross off the first thing from my bucket list.

TBL Authors Note

Author’s Note

I’ve always been interested in the idea of a bucket list. There are so many amazing things to experience in life, but not enough time to do it all. Some people are limited by money, others by busy schedules, but at some point you just have to see what you want to see and do what you want to do. There’s so many things that I want to do before I die, and I think my list will change over time, but some common themes that emerged in my bucket list were things like travel and family, stuff that doesn’t have anything to do with thrill, but just simple things that some people don’t get to experience.
I chose to present my project as an Animoto video because I liked how we did the visuals in our six word memoirs, but also liked the idea of a video. I don’t have much experience with video production, so Animoto was perfect.
I learned a lot through doing this project. Even though I still have two years left in high school, I think it’s good for me to start thinking about what I want to do after, and of all the things I can do on my bucket list right now. This project really allowed me to figure out what I want to do in my life, and I think that otherwise I might not have ever written any of them down, and they probably would’ve ended up just being passing thoughts. I’m glad I got a chance to compile them into a list, so that I’ll be able to pursue them. I look forward to crossing things off my bucket list!
